How the Jade Emperor came to be.

There was a place called the kingdom of light and joy, and everyone was happy and content there but after a while the king and queen there were worrying who was going to inherit their kingdom. The Queen later on dreamt the Lord Taishang (The grand pure one) floating down from above with a glowing baby. This glow proved that he was going to be something special. When the prince was born, everyone in the kingdom ignited with joy. When he grew up, since he was so kind to everyone, he gave the treasure in the palace that he lived in to the poor. His dad then decided after seeing these generous deeds to confirm the  whole "your the next ruler". So after the old King died the Jade Emperor became the king. After this since the kingdom was doing so well he told his people that he was going to go away for a little while to cultivate himself. Which is what he did and after doing this for a while he gained immortality and then he did this some more and became the Jade Emperor.

Monument in Chongqing City of the Jade Emperor.

In Chongqing City there is a beautiful Jade monument and did i mention it is Huge! He must be very powerful and honorable to have so many statues, paintings and even monuments to be named after him. Many common Chinese people think of him as the heavenly grandfather and he also has the amazing power to control everything that goes on in heaven, earth and hell.

Being the highest ranking ruler in Chinese mythology or old folk legends,
just like Zeus is to Greek mythology, the jade emperor lives in the heavenly
palace high above the clouds and sky. He controls all the gods of the
Buddhist and Taoist religions and those described in all mythological
stories. The Jade emperor is not only the highest ranked god worshiped
by the Taoist but he also is the most well known and worshiped in the
common Chinese people. There are sculpture of the Chinese Jade
Emperor in Taoist religious temples all across China, where these
temples are dedicated to him. The temples are called Jade Emperor
Temples matter of fact. Taoists set the Jade Emperor's
birthday on the ninth day of the first lunar month. On that special day
amazing rituals and sacrificial ceremonies are held in the Jade temples
everywhere in China.

The Jade Emperor, Heavenly Grandfather etc.

This man on a cloud is the Jade Emperor. The jade Emperor is the ruler of heaven earth and hell. He is the absolute most important in the god list to the Chinese tradition of religion. The Jade Emperor also goes by Heavenly grandfather and the pure August Jade Emperor. His full title however is Peace Absolving, central August spirit Exalted, Ancient Buddha, Most Pious and Honorable, His Highness the Jade-Emperor, Xuanling High Sovereign. Now you can see why the full title is rarely used. He has a huge empire above the clouds in the sky.
